Adrian Martinez will have a true breakout season

Adrian Martinez has had an up-and-down career with Nebraska football, however, there was a lot to like about how he played in 2020.

After some back-and-forth with Luke McCaffrey, Martinez took hold of the job at the end of the season and shouldn’t look back. He only threw four touchdowns compared to three interceptions but he completed 71 percent of his passes.

In the season finale against Rutgers, Martinez was off the charts, throwing for 255 yards (24 of 28), while also rushing for 155 yards and two scores. He did throw two interceptions that night, but outside of that, had only two incomplete passes.

Hopefully, that game will be a turning point for Martinez and my hope is that he goes into 2021 as the starter 100 percent, meaning no QB controversies. That in itself will show that Martinez has made progress.

The quarterback position has been a constant issue since Frost arrived in Lincoln but finally in 2021, Martinez will have a breakout season and by that I mean, he will start every game, throw for more than 3,000 yards and account for over 20 touchdowns.
