Nebraska Football: 5 bold predictions for Huskers in 2021
Nebraska’s defense will be best of Frost era
Looking back at the 2020 season, Nebraska football made some strides on defense and allowed only two teams — Ohio State and Illinois — to score more than 30 points.
Still, for the third straight year under Frost, the Huskers have ranked outside the top 60 in scoring defense, as well as allowing 386 yards per game.
But, there were some reasons for optimism. The Huskers did a better job of taking the football away and return Cam Taylor-Britt and Myles Farmer who each had two picks.
The Huskers will also get JoJo Domann back, plus Ben Stille, Will Honas, Deontai Williams and that gives Nebraska football nine of its top 10 tacklers back from a season ago.
Not to mention guys like Ty Robinson, Caleb Tannor and Garrett Nelson are becoming better players and in the trenches, all the players who produced sacks in 2020 are coming back.
This unit shouldn’t be expected to dominate, but the days of Nebraska offering little resistance on defense are over and more than any unit under Frost, these guys will deserve to be called Blackshirts. They will also be a top-50 defense for the first time since 2016.
