Game’s 1-4

Illinois (at Dublin, Ireland): W

This game is set for August 28 and even though it will be a little strange to open again with a Big Ten game, it’s a very winnable matchup for Nebraska football.

Frankly, this is a game the Huskers need to win if they want to be a bowl team. Illinois will have a new head coach in Bret Bielema, who is a proven winner in the Big Ten, but this is his first game and the talent gap is on Nebraska’s side. This should be a win.

Buffalo: W

Nebraska’s run defense will be tested in the second game of the season against Buffalo as Jaret Patterson, who averaged 7.6 yards per attempt last season and rushed for over 1,000 yards in just five games will come to Lincoln.

Buffalo has been a division winner multiple times in the MAC over the past three years and this program will be looking for a significant win and Nebraska is still a big name.

So if the Huskers aren’t careful, this could be an upset, however, I think they will find a way to reach 2-0.

Oklahoma: L

It’s going to be fun to see Nebraska play old rival Oklahoma, at least in some sense of the word, but the Sooners are just on another level right now and this one is likely to get out of hand.

We’ll still find out a lot about the Huskers from their trip to Norman.

Michigan State: L

This will be another huge test for Nebraska football with its first true road game in conference play. After this, the Huskers will play six of their next eight games at home, including five in the Big Ten at home.

That means a solid start will give the Huskers a good chance at a bowl game and while this is a winnable game for Nebraska. Michigan State is unpredictable, the Spartans won on the road against Michigan and Northwestern and lost at home to Rutgers.

This is a big game for both teams as Michigan State will be coming off a trip to Miami. It’s going to be a battle but I think the Huskers fall just short.
