Michigan Football: 3 signees who’ll have instant impacts in 2021
The hype train for JJ McCarthy got a huge boost on Thursday as Joe Milton announced he would be hitting the transfer portal and leaving Michigan. That means both he and Dylan McCaffrey are moving on and Cade McNamara might be the only guy standing in the way of McCarthy and the starting job in 2021.
McCarthy deserves to be seriously considered for the starting job next season and I think if Michigan wants to have hope for the future, he needs to take over under center.
All the best teams in college football aren’t afraid to play their elite five-star quarterbacks from day one, especially when the situation under center is a little shaky. Teams like Clemson and Alabama have moved on from veterans with starting experience for more talented freshmen and it’s led them to national titles.
I’m not saying Michigan will win a title if McCarthy starts, but it’s only going to help in the long run. There will be growing pains, but McCarthy is good enough to win Michigan some games and get the program turned in the right direction.
McCarthy was ranked the No. 24 prospect and second-best pro-style quarterback in the class, per the composite. He’s also an early enrollee.
