Looking back at the 2021 recruiting class, Penn State football didn’t necessarily have the type of class Nittany Lions fans have been used to under head coach James Franklin.

But really, the class was better than it looked. It had a number of four-star prospects and even though it was on the smaller side, there are still going to be a number of key contributions, especially some who could make an impact early.

Penn State football was able to finish strong with its 2021 class and that momentum is carrying over to 2022, where the Nittany Lions have built a very strong class with seven players committed already.

It’s very early, but Penn State is fourth nationally and second, behind only Ohio State in the Big Ten right now and all seven of their verbal commitments are four-star recruits.

Five of the Nittany Lions commitments are ranked in the top 200 of the 247 sports composite rankings and they already have a four-star QB in the class in Beau Pribula.

The job Franklin and company have done so far in 2022 is impressive, but there is some elite talent in the state of Pennslyvania and here are three priorities that remain for Penn State.

5-star DE Enai White

As far as in-state recruits, Penn State already has landed four of the top 12 for 2022 but the best player in the state is five-star defensive end Enai White, who is out of Philadelphia.

Landing White who is the No. 2 weak-side defensive end in the cycle at 6-foot-5, 230 pounds, will be tough, especially with Ohio State, LSU and Florida all recruiting him hard along with Penn State.

White has 43 offers total and is a game-changing defender. The early momentum and close proximity gives Penn State a chance and we’ll see if it can score a major recruiting win.
