Arik Gilbert decided to enter the transfer portal yet again, spurning Florida football and leaving everyone wondering what happened.

After a stellar freshman season with LSU, Arik Gilbert decided to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, shocking just about everyone.

The former five-star was one of the focal points of the offense this past season. Albeit disjointed, the LSU offense showed some flashes even but losing Myles Brennan hurt. It was clearly not the same team as the one that won a national title the year before, but the future still looked bright for the Tigers, especially with Gilbert.

He entered the portal and the word on the street was because he wanted to be closer to home in Georgia. In January, he decided to transfer to Florida, filling the Kyle Pitts void.

It made sense and the fit seemed to work well for both sides. Plus, the Gators are going to be competing for the SEC title next season and potentially a spot in the College Football Playoff.

On Sunday afternoon, he made a shocking announcement on Twitter. He was de-committing from Florida and he would be not announce his final decision until he’s enrolled and on campus at his next school which just means that we won’t know where he’s going until summer.

The Gilbert saga is an interesting one and it really makes you wonder what happened with his relationship with the Gators. Did Dan Mullen and him not get along? Was there a lack of communication on both ends after his original commitment? Is there now bad blood?

No one knows what happened but what we do know is that he won’t be a Gator this fall and he might just be heading somewhere else in the SEC before it’s all said and done.

The Gilbert Tour is becoming an interesting story to watch.
