Florida State Football: Way-too-early 2021 game-by-game predictions
Florida State football will have a really tough opener to start the 2021 season, as they welcome Notre Dame to Tallahassee.
Notre Dame is coming off of a playoff appearance in 2020, but they are losing a lot of starting production with guys like Ian Book, Liam Eichenberg, and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah. The Fighting Irish are hoping that Wisconsin transfer Jack Coan can bring some stability at the quarterback position until one of their young recruits can be ready.
The defense for Notre Dame was one of the best in the country last season, but they did lose defensive coordinator Clark Lea to Vanderbilt and replaced him with Cincinnati defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman.
I think this is a really tough game for the Seminoles to win. While I think Notre Dame is poised to take a step back, the Irish are well-coached and have an identity of playing physically and that does not bode for Florida State. I don’t expect this game to be very close.
Final Score: Florida State 17, Notre Dame 34 (0-1)
After a tough loss to Notre Dame, the Seminoles will stay at home to welcome FCS foe Jacksonville State. Jacksonville State is a good FCS program, but this should be the first opportunity for Florida State to get a win. The big thing for Florida State will be to get some of the younger guys in and get some experience that could prove pivotal later in the season.
Final Score: Florida State 42, Jacksonville State 14 (1-1)
