Georgia Football: 3 Off-season questions for the Bulldogs
By Dante Pryor
Can Pickens be the go-to wide receiver Georgia football needs?
In today’s college football landscape, having fast, dynamic receivers are as important to an offense as a blindside tackle.
The last four national title games are proof of this. Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III, Jaylen Waddle and Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith won two of the last four titles with Alabama. Tee Higgins and Justyn Ross starred for Clemson’s national title team. Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase starred for LSU.
If Georgia football is to take the next step and overtake Alabama, it must be dynamic at wide receiver. There is some question about the overall talent of Georgia’s receivers, and the group lacks a true alpha.
The candidate to be the alpha of the receiver room is George Pickens. Is this the year the Alabama high school stand-out finally rounds into form for Georgia?
Pickens regressed his second year in Athens. However, there is plenty of COVID grace to give Pickens and plenty of other players. However, this has to be the year. Pickens has an entire offseason with offensive coordinator Todd Monken and Daniels.
Pickens has to become the go-to for Daniels. He was the highly-touted receiver coming out of high school with all of the physical traits to become a number one receiver. If Pickens does not step his game up this season, Georgia might find itself in second place again.
