Texas football will begin the Steve Sarkisian era with a very tricky home game vs Louisiana. Louisiana had one of the best seasons for a Sun Belt team in 2020 and only lost one game last season. Head coach Billy Napier has been one of the hottest coaching commodities the past few hiring cycles but has elected to stay at Louisiana and he will have his best and most experienced team in 2021 and they will have big expectations this season.

This will not be an easy game to open a season, let alone a new coaching tenure. Louisiana beat Iowa State by 17 on the road last season and the Cyclones went on to play for the conference title. I think that Texas’s talent will win out, but don’t be surprised if this is a game in the fourth quarter.

Final Score: Texas 42, Louisiana 34 (1-0)

After a closer than expected victory over Louisiana, the Longhorns will go on the road for the first time all season and face an SEC opponent. Arkansas had one of the surprise seasons in 2020 under Sam Pittman, but this season it will be tough to replicate that success.

The Razorbacks were one of the more physical teams in the SEC, but they will have to replace their two big playmakers on offense in quarterback Felipe Franks and running back Rakeem Boyd. Replacing those two will determine a lot for the Razorbacks.

I think that Texas will have a big talent edge in this game and the coaching staff to win with that talent. Past Texas teams may have stumbled in this game, but I think it will be up to the task.

Final Score: Texas 34, Arkansas 24 (2-0)
