Florida Football: 3 storylines to follow in spring 2021
1. Kyle Trask’s replacement
Florida has a couple of talented dual-threat options at quarterback to replace Kyle Trask in 2021 but the latter part of that sentence is not going to be easy.
Trask is one of the best quarterbacks the Gators have had and he was a top-three Heisman candidate all season long. He was accurate, had a strong arm and made good decisions. He put the Gators on his back for the entire season when the run game was non-existent and when the defense decided not to show up.
Emory Jones and Anthony Richardson have some gigantic shoes to fill.
Jones is the most likely starter as a redshirt junior with plenty of experience under his belt. He was never really inserted into games to pass the ball but he did have 32 attempts last season, completing 18 of them for 221 yards and two touchdowns. Not great, but he had 217 yards and two touchdowns on 32 rushes as well. He could be a really good quarterback at Florida.
Richardson was a bit of a roller-coaster last season in limited action, completing 1-of-2 passes for 27 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He also rushed seven times for 61 yards.
It’ll be interesting to see who’s ahead in the quarterback battle by the end of spring ball.
