Notre Dame football is putting together a strong 2022 recruiting class and is trending with crystal ball projections for another top-100 defender in Jaylen Sneed.
Obviously, there is a long way to go. Programs like Alabama, Ohio State and Clemson will start landing their fair share of elite recruits, but regardless of whether the Irish hold their current spot, their recruiting has been high level.
And the momentum doesn’t appear to be slowing down at all.
What Sneed would bring to Notre Dame’s 2022 recruiting class
Sneed is a 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker, and the prospect from Hilton Head, South Carolina is everything you could want in an outside linebacker. He’s got tremendous size and speed, as well as a unique ability to pressure the quarterback.
One reason that he has started to trend with picks to the Irish — even though there are just two right now — is that he recently took a self-guided visit to the Notre Dame Campus as reported by 247 sports on Monday.
That doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s a done deal and a lot of it depends on when Sneed is going to make his decision, but Notre Dame football certainly feels like the leader at this point.
Some recruits are taking more self-guided visits than others. But in many cases, commitments have followed soon after, and while that’s probably premature with a kid like Sneed, who is ranked 79th overall in the 247 sports composite rankings, you have to feel good as a Notre Dame football fan right now with where the Irish are sitting.
Sneed is the No. 5 outside linebacker in the 247 sports composite rankings for 2022 and the No. 2 ranked player in South Carolina.
Notre Dame football currently has seven four-star commitments in 2022 out of 11 total. However, none of them are ranked as high as Sneed, who would be the first top-100 recruit committed to the Irish in the class.
Stay tuned, but it looks like more recruiting victories could be on the horizon for the Irish.
