Detroit Lions

While it’s hard to see a talent like Pitts lasting to the seventh pick of the 2021 NFL draft, if there is a run on quarterbacks, it’s possible.

You never know what could happen with those first six picks with elite receivers and offensive lineman available too.

If Pitts is available when Detroit picks, the Lions will have a tough decision to make. Not because Pitts isn’t worth the pick but because the Lions just used a top-10 pick on a tight end with T.J. Hockenson.

Back in the early 2000s, the Lions used a top-10 pick on a receiver three times in four years, so fans will remember that and might not react kindly to drafting another “tight end.”

The difference is that Pitts isn’t just a tight end. He can play wide receiver, he can play in the slot, and really, as a pass-catcher, he can do it all.

The Lions lost Kenny Golladay and need more playmakers in the passing game. If Pitts is available here, it means that Chase is gone. It’s possible another receiver such as Jaylen Waddle could be gone too if the Dolphins opt to go that route.

And if the Lions aren’t taking a quarterback, then another once-in-a-generation talent is needed and Pitts feels like that guy. Maybe that would at least give Jared Goff a fighting chance in Detroit.
