Dan Mullen and Florida football have been pretty active in the NCAA transfer portal this offseason, picking up four newcomers.

All four of the new Gators that Florida landed in the transfer portal could end up starting this fall but they might not be done adding to the 2021 roster.

Florida looks to be near capacity for the 2021 season but adding another key player in a position of need won’t hurt. The Gators look like one of the top contenders in the SEC already but there’s more work to be done if Mullen wants to make the playoff.

Who could Mullen still target in the transfer portal?

It was a bit of a surprise to see Jay Hardy hit the transfer portal this offseason after just one year with Auburn but that should have perked Dan Mullen’s ears up.

Former 247Sports Director of Scouting Barton Simmons compared Hardy to a Nick Fairly and that has to be music to Mullen’s ears. The Gators need some depth on that defensive line and even though they added Antonio Shelton and Daquan Newkirk (Hardy’s former teammate) this offseason, they could afford to have another depth piece up front with four years of eligibility remaining.

The Gators’ defensive line is getting up there in years as Brenton Cox is a junior and Zachary Carter and Antonio Shelton are seniors. Their backups, outside of Gervon Dexter are all upperclassmen as well, so Hardy could come in and play on that line for years.

Hardy is talented enough to crack the two-deep as a former top-150 recruit and he held an offer from Florida in the 2020 class. He can play both end and tackle.
