Florida’s backfield got a whole heck of a lot better this offseason and that’s because Dan Mullen hit the portal and landed former five-star running back Demarkcus Bowman from Clemson.

Bowman played in just one season with the Tigers and earned minimal carries. He touched the ball just nine times for 32 yards, averaging 3.6 yards per carry. He didn’t get a chance to look like the No. 3 running back in the 2020 recruiting class because Clemson had Travis Etienne earning the bulk of the carries along with Lyn-J Dixon who figures to be the starter in 2021.

With the likelihood of not being a starter in either of his first two college football seasons, Bowman decided to hit the portal and Florida seemed to have a winnable starting job.

Former five-star Lorenzo Longard transferred in last season but was injured for most of 2020 and took a redshirt and Malik Davis, Dameon Pierce, and Nay’Quan Wright all return as well.

Bowman still figures to be a big part of the plans for Florida in 2021.

Bowman ranked No. 4 transfer by 247Sports

Florida found itself a good one with Bowman who is compared to Felix Jones by 247Sports’ recruiting expert John Garcia Jr.

Bowman may be just 5-foot-9, but he’s a muscular 191 pounds with speed and elusiveness. He’s going to be a really tough back to bring down because he hits holes hard and he’s going to form a heck of a potential one-two punch with Lingard next year.

Just how good is Bowman expected to be? Well, 247Sports listed him as the No. 4 transfer in the entire 2021 portal which had over 2,000 players. He’s behind just Henry To’o To’o (Alabama), Eric Gray (Oklahoma), and Arik Gilbert (uncommitted).

The Gators nearly landed two of the top four transfers this offseason as Gilbert committed a couple of months ago before decommitting and re-evaluating his options.

Mullen is gearing this team up for another playoff run and Bowman is going to be a big part of it.
