For the second straight season, Florida football has picked up one of the best running back transfers on the market.

Last season, it was Lorenzo Lingard who came over from Miami but he played minimally in 2020 and this season it’s Clemson transfer Demarkcus Bowman.

Dameon Pierce led the backfield with just over 500 yards rushing but averaged just 4.7 yards per touch. Malik Davis was second with 310 yards also on 4.7 yards per touch and both enter their senior seasons as default backs on the two-deep.

But with the addition of Bowman this offseason, it seems relatively clear where the bulk of the carries should come from in 2021.

The former five-star joins a crowded backfield, but if the Gators want the most out of their run game, Bowman should be the workhorse.

I’ve always been a big fan of Lingard and the potential he possesses, so Florida’s ideal backfield would be a three-headed attack of him, Pierce, and Bowman with the latter leading the way.

Florida football finally showcasing a quality run game

Talent has never been an issue in Florida’s backfield, but last season just proved that Dan Mullen trusted the arm of Kyle Trask far more than his backs.

That should change with a new quarterback under center in 2021.

Florida should see more production from the backfield especially with Bowman in town as one of the best transfers in the entire 2021 portal. He’s a 5-10, 190-pound budding star with great explosiveness and vision. He would be the perfect complement to a backfield with Pierce and Lingard and then Davis could add in quality depth as the fourth back.

Offensively, the sky is the limit for the Gators but if they want to experience the most success, they’ll need to give Bowman the nod as RB1 in 2021.

He has “future All-American” written all over him.
