Georgia Southern football is entering its eighth season as an FBS team, and so far, it has been a successful transition for the program.

Georgia Southern football has won 50 games since joining the FBS ranks in 2014, and they have also won three bowl games and one Sun Belt conference championship.

The biggest Georgia Southern memory I have was back in 2015 when they played the Georgia Bulldogs in Athens. I was at that game, and the Eagles took the Dawgs to overtime before Sony Michel scored the game-winning touchdown (little did I know this would only be Sony’s second most memorable walk-off touchdown run).

Oh yeah, and they also put up 302 rushing yards on Alabama back in 2011. Alabama had five future first-round draft picks on defense that day. Nick Saban still remembers this game.

In their history, the Eagles have won six FCS national championships in football, with three of them coming under legendary head coach Erk Russell, who helped build the program from the ground up. They have produced talented players such as Adrian Peterson (not the one you’re thinking of), Matt Breida, Jerick McKinnon, and JJ Wilcox, who all went on to play in the NFL.

Looking ahead to 2021, there are several players that could bring home all-conference honors for the team and help the Eagles make a run at a Sun Belt title.
