Notre Dame Football: Elite RB trending away to Penn State
Nicholas Singleton, one of the top running backs in the 2022 class was trending to Notre Dame football. But now, it’s looking like Penn State.
Notre Dame football has put together a lot of recruiting victories so far in the 2022 recruiting class, but it’s starting to look like landing four-star running back Nicholas Singleton won’t be one of them.
Singleton is a top target for Notre Dame football and he was recently on campus for an official visit. It went really well and the second-best player from the state of Pennslyvania, as well as the No. 98 prospect overall in 2022, according to the 247 sports composite rankings, started trending with expert picks to land with the Fighting Irish.
Yet, as Lee Corso is fond of saying, “Not so fast my friend.”
Or at least that’s what Penn State football is saying to Notre Dame about Singleton because after he took a visit to Happy Valley, things are starting to trend back in the other direction.
Two big crystal ball predictions came in on June 29th from Brian Dohn and Steve Wiltfong of 247 sports. Wiltfong is a national analyst and Dohn focuses on the East coast. Both were significant picks and had a confidence level of seven on a scale of 1-10.
Making things look even worse for the Irish, more predictions started to come in a couple of days ago. Experts covering Penn State, Wisconsin, and Michigan State for 247 sports have all followed suit with projections of their own for Singleton to Penn State football.
Final predictions for Nicholas Singleton
This recruitment has been back and forth the past few weeks and visits have told the tale. Penn State football needs Singleton badly in this class. For one, he’s an elite running back and you can’t let an in-state talent like that get away.
In addition to visiting Notre Dame and Penn State, Singleton also took official visits in June to Wisconsin, Texas A&M, and Alabama.
Yet, when he makes his decision on July 6, an announcement that will be carried by CBS College Sports, it would be a huge surprise if he chose someone other than Notre Dame or Penn State.
And if the most recent predictions are any indication, Penn State football is the favorite to land what could be the Nittany Lions best running back since Saquon Barkley.
Notre Dame does have a four-star running back committed already in 2022 in Jadarian Price, plus the Irish are now the favorite for a top-100 receiver, so even if Singleton does choose Penn State, it’s hard to feel down about Notre Dame recruiting right now.
