South Alabama Football: Jaguars look to get ahead of rebuild in 2021
It was time for a new change of culture within the football program of the South Alabama Jaguars. Within the past three seasons under head coach Steve Campbell, the Jaguars accumulated an overall record of 9-26 and 6-18 in Sun Belt Conference play.
The Jaguars decided to make a change of culture for 34-year old Kane Wommack as the new head coach of the Jaguars. For the past three seasons, Wommack has created a high-efficiency defense for the Indiana Hoosiers. Wommack is looking to make his first stint as a head coach count with South Alabama football. He was the Jaguars’ defensive coordinator and linebackers coach in the 2016 and 2017 seasons.
The Jaguars feel great about their new adopted culture, with Wommack as the key source of positive energy. South Alabama feels highly confident in the great coaching staff it has assembled and the talent returning.
South Alabama football also had some transfers on both sides of the ball that will make a tremendous impact in the upcoming 2021 College Football season.
The Jaguars are looking to finish the 2021 season near the top of the Sun Belt’s West Division like last season. They are projected to finish fourth in the West just ahead of the Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks, according to Athlon Sports. The Jaguars have high-caliber talent on both sides of the ball despite losing some key players to the NFL and could spark a surprisingly good season with the team they have built that could some of their rivals in the Sun Belt.
