There are some big-name prospects at receiver left on Notre Dame’s board in the 2022 class, but one name that seems to be trending more than anyone else — other than maybe Tobias Merriweather — is CJ Williams, a four-star from Santa Ana, Calif.

Williams has taken two official visits — to Notre Dame and Texas — and the feeling here is that the Irish did enough to win him over as four crystal balls have come in favoring them since he took the trip to South Bend. Steve Wiltfong was the latest to place a crystal ball for Notre Dame with a “6” confidence level. This is a big deal because he’s the director of football recruiting for 247Sports.

Where there’s smoke, there’s usually fire, and I could see Williams making a decision here soon, especially since it looks like he was wowed by his Notre Dame visit enough to lead to these predictions from top insiders.

Notre Dame doesn’t have a receiver committed to its 2022 class just yet and Williams would be a heck of a first addition. He’s listed as the No. 73 overall prospect in the country and ninth-best receiver in the cycle. But 247Sports is even higher on him, ranking him in the top 50 nationally.

I wouldn’t be shocked if he committed here soon to make sure he still has a spot in the class, but I’d venture to guess Notre Dame would make room for him no matter what.
