Arizona Football is starting over after the much anticipated Kevin Sumlin era crashed and burned

After Rich Rodriguez was let go from the Arizona football program after a pretty successful tenure that included a trip to the PAC-12 title game and a Fiesta Bowl, it was thought that former Texas A&M and Houston head coach Kevin Sumlin was going to fit in seamlessly and rediscover what made him one of the most sought after coaches at one point in his career.

Arizona football has been a program that has been thought to be a bit of a sleeping giant in the PAC-12 because of the improving high school talent in the state of Arizona and the administration has shown a desire to improve the football program.

Sumlin was going to be the coach that brought his SEC experience out west and get the Wildcats to realize that potential. However, sometimes things don’t go exactly as planned and Sumlin flamed out in a major way and left behind a huge mess to clean up — that mess is going to take multiple years to fix.

Arizona talked to several different coaches to take over for Sumlin but made the surprising decision to hire Jedd Fisch as the program’s next head coach.

Fisch has ample amounts of experience as both a college offensive coordinator and position coach and he has worked for numerous NFL teams as well. Fisch is very familiar with the west coast and recruiting in the area and is a good offensive coach and contrary to popular opinion, I think this will be a good hire if fans of the program can just be patient and realize the situation that they are in.

This will be a tough debut season, but it needs to be all about developing the right culture and finding young talent to build the program.
