Georgia State has not been an FBS football program for very long, but they are starting to figure things out and that could be bad news for the rest of the Sun Belt.

Georgia State is in Atlanta which is one of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the country and the Panthers have done a nice job of adding experience through the transfer portal. This program has shown that they have potential and after a solid 2020 season with a very young team, I think the Panthers could make a surprising run for the Sun Belt East title.

It’s not a surprising thing that the Panthers bring back so many starters (many teams are going to this season), but after fielding his best team yet in Atlanta, head coach Shawn Elliott is going to love having such an experienced team in 2021.

The guy that is giving Panthers fans the most excitement is sophomore quarterback Cornelious Brown IV who struggled at times throwing interceptions last season, but he showed that there is a lot to be excited about for the future.

As good as the Panthers could be this season, their upside might be capped by how strong the Sun Belt is going to be. Coastal Carolina, App State, and Louisiana are all talented enough teams to be considered Top 25 teams and all three teams are going to be on Georgia State’s schedule. Couple that with non-conference games against North Carolina and Army, and that is going to be a tough schedule for Shawn Elliott to navigate.

This is a team that has a high ceiling that might be capped by a tough schedule.
