Dan Mullen and Florida football just missed out on a playoff berth a year ago and while the Gators were dangerously close to reaching the national semifinal, a late-season meltdown ended those hopes.

Now the Gators must figure out how to replace some big-time talents in Kyle Pitts, Kadarius Toney, and Kyle Trask. That’s not going to be easy, but there is plenty of returning talent for 2021.

Florida should have one of the more talented teams in the SEC and Mullen made it very clear at SEC Media Days that he wasn’t worried about Georgia being the presumed favorite in the East.

The Gators might just surprise some people this season, and that’ll include some blowout victories to really open some eyes.

Disclaimer: I tried to use only one non-conference game and no FCS teams in order to avoid a list with Samford, USF, and FAU.

I think Willie Taggart and FAU might have a solid 2021 season so I’m going with USF here which is coming off a nightmarish 1-8 campaign in 2020. The Bulls didn’t win a single conference game in Jeff Scott’s first year as head coach and they only had two losses that were by less than 10 points.

The Bulls should be slightly better this season, but that won’t be enough to keep up with an explosive team like Florida.

South Florida played one Power Five team last season and was shut out 52-0 by Notre Dame. The Bulls faced a ranked Cincinnati team a week later and were downed by 20. They also lost to Houston and Tulsa by at least four touchdowns as they weren’t all that competitive.

Scott has a quarterback battle to figure out and five starters to replace on defense which could prove to be disastrous, but it also can’t get much worse from the No. 94 total defense a year ago. The offense returns nine starters but ranked 90th nationally in 2020.

This game won’t be close.
