Penn State football continued its momentum in the 2022 recruiting class, while Big Ten rival Michigan State also added a 4-star wide receiver.

It’s been a growing story in the 2022 recruiting class but Penn State football is putting together an impressive list of commitments — one that grew on Monday.

James Franklin and company have the second-ranked class in the 247 sports team rankings for 2022, and on Monday, the Nittany Lions added their 21st verbal pledge thanks to the commitment of four-star cornerback Cam Miller.

Miller is the 13th four-star recruit (according to 247 sports composite rankings) to commit to Penn State football during this cycle and he’s also the ninth commitment that the Nittany Lions have landed this month.

Ranked 281st overall in the 2022 class according to 247 sports, the 6-foot, 180-pound defensive back out of Florida is projected to be a future NFL draft pick according to 247 sports and could eventually play corner or safety for the Nittany Lions.

The addition of Miller to the 2022 class will also help make up for missing on Keenan Nelson Jr. a four-star cornerback from Philly that committed to South Carolina last week.

Nelson was a top priority but Miller adds a talented yet versatile piece to the secondary which didn’t have a cornerback pledge yet, which was one of the weaknesses in an otherwise loaded class that features 16 players ranked in the top 500 of the 247 composite rankings.

Michigan State football adds 4-star with NFL lineage

Mel Tucker has made a definite impact on in-state recruiting for Michigan State football and landed one of the top in-state 2022 recruits in four-star wideout Antonio Gates Jr.

It could be just the start of an impressive run of in-state commitments for Michigan State football which is the favorite with Alex VanSumeren, a top defensive line prospect in Michigan. MSU is also locked in an intense recruiting battle with Michigan over in-state DB Dillon Tatum.

Gates, the son of NFL pro-bowl tight end Antonio Gates, is 6-foot-1, 185 pounds and ranked 293rd overall in the 2022 class, as well as 8th in Michigan according to the composite rankings.

The wide receiver is also the first four-star addition in 2022 for the Spartans in the composite rankings making him their top commitment at this point.

However, quarterback Katin Houser also committed recently to Michigan State football and was given an upgrade by 247 sports and is ranked No. 246th by that recruiting service.

Gates is the 16th verbal commitment of the 2022 class for the Spartans, who have the 27th-ranked class overall but one that’s on the rise and could be improving with additions soon.
