Some might categorize this as a trap game and that’s fair because it comes the week after a rivalry game with Arkansas and right before the Aggies’ matchup with the potential No. 1 team in the nation Alabama.

But Mississippi State had a rough season in 2020 and Mike Leach is searching for answers. He finished the year with two straight wins, including a 19-point triumph over Missouri and then an Armed Forces Bowl win over Tulsa. Could this momentum carry over?

Honestly, it’s hard to say yes with so many question marks on the depth chart, including doubts about Will Rogers’ ability to be a Leach-type passer. He did have a solid first season after relieving KJ Costello of his duties, passing for 1,976 yards and 11 touchdowns, but he had seven picks and the offense ranked 104th in the nation in total yards and 109th in scoring.

Mississippi State is a couple of years away from being a legitimate threat in the SEC and the Bulldogs might just have a tough follow-up to a 4-7 season in Leach’s debut.

Texas A&M beat the Bulldogs by 14 last season in Starkville and I could see the Aggies winning by at least three touchdowns in College Station in 2021.
