Everyone is talking about Oklahoma and Texas moving to the SEC, even former Florida Football coach Steve Spurrier, who doesn’t sound like a fan.

Just about every college football fan, pundit, player, and coach has an opinion on the move by Texas and Oklahoma to join the SEC and on Thursday, former Florida football coach Steve Spurrier offered his two cents on the matter.

And even though the Ol’ Ball Coach doesn’t’ have anything to do with the current Florida football program, he offered some sentiments that a lot of other people are thinking. Here’s what he told the Orlando Sentinel about Texas moving from the Big 12 to the SEC.

"“I can understand Texas jumping over,” Spurrier said. “They get to play Texas A&M again. They get to … they can’t win the Big 12 anyway. I think they’re only won two in the last 30 years or so. What is it?”"

It’s worth noting that Texas did win the Big 12 championship three times since 1996 with the last coming in 2009, which also happened to be Nebraska’s final season in the Big 12. Texas A&M and Missouri left soon after.

Yet, it’s been over a decade since the Longhorns were a real national championship contender and hasn’t happened since Mack Brown left.

Oklahoma will struggle more in SEC

After departures from other programs, the Big 12 added TCU and West Virginia to get back to 10 teams, but since then, the league has been dominated by Oklahoma football.

The Sooners have reached the playoff multiple times and have racked up conference championship after conference championship.

However, Spurrier doesn’t think that will happen in the SEC and with Alabama, Florida football, LSU, Georgia, Texas A&M, and others, the Sooners aren’t going to enjoy the same level of success, especially when you consider they are winless in the College Football Playoff.

Astutely, Spurrier said the move was all about the money, which it was.

"“I’m sort of surprised Oklahoma,” Spurrier said. “I just don’t think they’re going to come over to the SEC and win with any regularity the way that they win the Big 12. Their fans might say, ‘Yeah, now we can beat Alabama and LSU and all these dudes.’ It may not happen like that. “I don’t know. It’s obviously more money.”"

Oklahoma has won six consecutive Big 12 championships and while the Sooners might occasionally beat teams like Bama, Florida, LSU, and Georgia, those programs are unlike anything the Sooners see in the Big 12 where inconsistent Texas is the top rival outside of Iowa State.

Next. Way too early top 25 projections. dark

The Head Ball Coach knows a thing or two about the SEC and this take sounds 100 percent right. But we’ll have to wait a few years for the receipts.
