FAU Owls. 1. Pick Analysis. Sept. 4. player. 2399. Scouting Report. Gainesville, Fla.

Willie Taggart’s first season with Florida Atlantic can be considered a success as he went 5-4 and it was a nice rebound from the fall-off from the Florida State job. He should have one of the best defenses in the Group of Five next season with 10 starters returning to the No. 24 unit in 2020 but his offense could use a ton of work.

The offense does return 11 starters, on paper, but the Owls figure to have some of those guys as backups next season. Still, I don’t think FAU will have enough firepower offensively to hang with the Gators.

Final Score: FAU 10, Florida 41 (1-0)

Quite the opposite from in-state foe FAU, Jeff Scott had a nightmarish first season with South Florida in 2020. In fact, the Bulls finished just 1-8 and were winless in AAC play.

USF brings back 15 total starters but that’s not going to mean much if the production remains the same as it was in 2020. The Bulls ranked No. 90 in total offense and 94th in total defense last season while being in the 100-range in scoring offense and defense.

This one will get lopsided fast.

Final Score: Florida 55, USF 13 (2-0)
