Louisiana football on verge of best season in school history?
How will Louisiana football fare in 2021?
Louisiana is not going to have to wait very long to attempt to make a statement on how good of a team it is.
The Ragin’ Cajuns open the season with a trip to Austin to take on the Texas Longhorns in Steve Sarkisian’s debut as the head coach. Win that game and an undefeated season is certainly a possibility and could help Louisiana make their case to be considered for a spot in a New Year’s Six bowl.
- Game 1: at Texas (L) — I think Louisiana has an excellent shot at winning this game, but I can’t pick against the Longhorns at home.
- Game 2: Nicholls State (W) — After a disappointing loss to Texas, this is the perfect bounce-back game for Louisiana.
- Game 3: Ohio (W) — The Bobcats will be a tough team to beat even without Frank Solich on the sidelines, but Louisiana is the better team.
- Game 4: at Georgia Southern (W) — The Eagles almost upset the Cajuns in Louisiana last season and Statesboro is a very tough place to win so Louisiana needs to be really careful here.
- Game 5: at South Alabama (W) — The Jaguars are going to be one of the worst teams in the Sun Belt and they won’t stand a chance against Louisiana.
- Game 6: Appalachian State (W) — This is going to be a really tough game at home, but I think Louisiana outlasts the Mountaineers in a crucial Sun Belt showdown.
- Game 7: at Arkansas State (W) — Former Tennessee and Central Michigan head coach Butch Jones is at Arkansas State now, but he has some rebuilding to do first.
- Game 8: Texas State (W) — The Bobcats have a good offense, but their defense won’t be able to stop the Louisiana offense.
- Game 9: Georgia State (W) — Georgia State is a team to watch out for in the Sun Belt this season because of their offense.
- Game 10: at Troy (W) — Troy is always a tough place to play, but I think Louisiana will have enough momentum to win.
- Game 11: at Liberty (W) — This will be one of the better non-conference games of the year, but I think Louisiana get the win over Malik Willis and Liberty.
- Game 12: Louisiana-Monroe (W) — Louisiana put 70 points on ULM last season and it could be more of the same this season.
Prediction: 11-1, 8-0 Sun Belt
This is going to be one of the best teams in the Group of Five and it’s in for a special season. Avoiding Coastal Carolina until the conference championship is a huge plus and the Cajuns get App State and Georgia State at home. Everything is in place for Louisiana to have a season to remember in 2021.
