21. 851. 40. 844. Final

The Arkansas football team gave future SEC member school Texas quite the welcome gift in handing them a massive loss Saturday night.

The #15 Longhorns traveled to Fayetteville in what could become an annual game after Texas makes the transition to the SEC after the conference realignment dust settles.

Arkansas football, led by head hog Sam Pittman, got its second win of the season after defeating Rice last week 38-17. This is also the second win against a ranked team since Pittman became head coach of the Razorbacks.

You have to go all the way back to the 2016 season when Bret Bielema was the head coach to find an Arkansas football squad that beat a Top-25 team. The fans were so ecstatic to see the Hogs get the win over the Longhorns, they stormed the field post-game.

You can count Jerry Jones as one Razorback fan/booster/former player who was also very pleased with pulling the upset over Texas. Jones was seen at the game talking to recruits and what a fantastic game to present to recruits.

Here are three hot takes that will have people talking after seeing the Hogs handle the Horns.

3. QB KJ Jefferson will grow into those Cam Newton comparisons

On paper, you can see why sophomore QB KJ Jefferson gets comps to former Auburn great Cam Newton. Jefferson is a dual-threat 6’3″ quarterback weighing 245 lbs. Newton, the 2010 Heisman trophy winner, and the dual-threat quarterback was listed at 6’6″ and 250 lbs while at Auburn.

Newton is considered by many to be one of the most talented quarterbacks to play in the SEC in the modern era. He was just as lethal with his legs as he was with his arm.

Jefferson opened the season against Rice by going 12 of 21 for 128 yards and rushing for 78 yards on nine carries. He threw a touchdown and ran for two more in that game.

Despite notching zero touchdowns, Jefferson was more accurate in his outing against the Horns, completing 14 of 19 passes for 138 yards. On the ground, KJ Jefferson racked up 73 rushing yards on 10 carries.

Prior to the start of this season, Jefferson had only attempted 72 passes in his career with the Hogs. As the season goes on and he gets used to the speed of the college game, he’ll be able to settle in and hone his accuracy.
