Winner: BYU (Up to No. 15)

One of the most surprising teams in the country up to this point in the season has been the BYU Cougars. I was one of many people that wrote off the Cougars after they lost so much from last season, including quarterback Zach Wilson and most of their offensive line.

BYU has responded by beating three Pac-12 teams to start the season, including Arizona State and Utah, two teams thought to be the main contenders for the division.

This is a physical football team that knows how they want to play and it shows that head coach Kalani Sitake has his guys believing that they can play with any team in the country. When you look at the schedule, it is very possible that BYU could run the table and compete for some big prizes later in the season.

Winner: Penn State (Up to No. 6)

The Nittany Lions showed that they should be considered the top challenger to Ohio State in the Big Ten East with their win over Auburn on Saturday night. Nittany Lions quarterback Sean Clifford played the best game of his career and the Penn State defense did enough to stop the Tigers and get the win.

There are still plenty of top games on the schedule for Penn State and they won’t have much time to celebrate. Iowa, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Michigan all await Penn State later in the season.

For now, though, Penn State keeps rolling and they just might have proved themselves to be legitimate contenders for a playoff spot.
