Notre Dame football did not play anywhere close to a complete game in either of its games to start off the 2021 campaign. The Irish knew they had to play better coming into this weeks matchup against Purdue.

Was it a perfect game? Absolutely not, but it was definitely a better overall game for the Irish. It took a little while for Notre Dame to get going overall on Saturday but the Irish did enough to help secure a 27-13 win over Purdue on Saturday inside Notre Dame Stadium.

The Irish extended their home winning streak to an impressive 26 games in a row with the win on Saturday over the Boilermakers. Notre Dame football also has now won eight straight games against Purdue in the in-state rivalry.

This means the Shillelagh Trophy remains at Notre Dame with the win over Purdue. This was the Boilermakers first loss of the season and now makes them 2-1 on the year.

The Notre Dame winning streak at home and extending its consecutive wins against Purdue in the rivalry were not the only major accomplishment in this game. Coach Brian Kelly recorded his 105th win as the head coach at Notre Dame.

The victory over Purdue now puts Brian Kelly all tied up at the top with legendary head coach Knute Rockne for wins in Notre Dame coaching history. A cool nugget surrounding Kelly’s first win and this latest win on Saturday to get him tied at 105 in his Notre Dame coaching career is both came against Purdue.
