Irish need to get Avery Davis more targets moving forward

Avery Davis had a huge game for Notre Dame and his best game of the young season for the Irish. Davis finished the day with 5 receptions for 120 yards and a touchdown.

The senior captain for Notre Dame in Davis was pretty non-existent coming into Saturday against Purdue with only 3 receptions for 29 yards.

It was good to see that Avery Davis had a good game and got some rhythm between himself and quarterback Jack Coan. The Boilermakers did a great job of limiting star tight end, Michael Mayer, to only one catch for five yards and held talented receiver Kevin Austin Jr. to zero catches on the afternoon.

Notre Dame football has a lot of options on offense they can throw to on their end, but you need to find a way to get an athlete like Davis the ball out there to make plays. Saturday was a key example of what happens when you get him the ball more and involved in the offensive game plan.

The more guys you can have step up on offense the better. The Irish are hoping that this game from Davis can help him become a factor more regularly on the offensive side of the ball like he was in the slot during a good 2020 season last year.
