App State football (2-1) is looking to avenge last season’s 17-7 loss to Marshall (2-1) when they take the field in this Week 4 Thursday night game on ESPN.

Marshall, boasting a freshman backfield of quarterback Grant Wells and running back Rasheen Ali have been giving opponents fit all season long. They did their best to top AAC foe, East Carolina, in Week 3 but fell short by four points.

The Mountaineers are coming off a huge 44-10 victory over Elon from Week 3 and are still frustrated by a two-point Week 2 loss to nationally ranked Miami.

Let’s take a look at three bold predictions for this huge primetime matchup featuring two exciting Group of Five teams.

3. The quarterbacks will pass for 600-plus combined yards

Senior Appalachian State quarterback Chase Brice is averaging 250 yards per contest and Marshall freshman Grant Wells has thrown for 330 or more yards in each game this season.

The two are on a collision course to see who can out-throw who.

Wells is a high-risk, high-reward player. He makes a lot of risky passes, throwing five interceptions, but racking up 1,110 passing yards so far this season. Look for sophomore wide receiver Corey Gammage to continue the momentum he built against East Carolina last week when he caught eight passes from Wells, gaining 180 yards.
