Nebraska football travels to Michigan State on Saturday and here are three reasons the Huskers will pull the upset.

So far, the 2021 Nebraska football season has been filled with disappointment. The Huskers have played some solid football at times but sit at 2-2 when they could easily be 4-0.

Special teams’ mistakes and a costly turnover near the red zone cost Nebraska football last week against third-ranked Oklahoma. While more special teams mistakes, turnovers. and penalties cost Nebraska in Week Zero against Illinois.

Husker fans had to be encouraged by the showing last week. Martinez probably outplayed Heisman contender Spencer Rattler and the defense more than held its own.

But as I said last week, the time for moral victories has long since passed. Frost and the Huskers need a signature win and Saturday against the 20th-ranked Spartans will provide the perfect opportunity. Here are three reasons why it could finally happen.

Desperation

Nebraska has proven it can hang with elite teams. If the Huskers can nearly beat Oklahoma on the road, it can do the same to Michigan State, a team that’s 3-0 but has beaten up on some teams that don’t look all that impressive.

The Spartans have Kenneth Walker, an early Heisman contender, and a quarterback in Payton Thorne who hasn’t thrown an interception.

But Michigan State sometimes losses games it shouldn’t and it’s happened before during the Mel Tucker era, such as last year to Rutgers.

And there’s no way that the Spartans are going to be as hungry to win this game as Nebraska. The Huskers know they have little time to get this right and I think you’ll see an extraordinary effort in all three phases on Saturday.

Now, hopefully, the coaching is up to snuff.
