Ranking all 17 unbeaten, unranked college football teams in Week 4
By Ryan Kay
There are 16 college football teams undefeated and ranked nationally in the top 25. There are 18 teams however that are undefeated but not ranked but they are playing to stay undefeated in Week 4 play.
Some of the undefeated teams that are not ranked nationally look to win their fourth game of the season to not only remain undefeated but move into the top 25 rankings going into their Week 5 contests. We will look and rank the 18 teams based on their strength of schedule according to teamrankings.com, their wins versus Power Five teams, and their wins on the road.
We will also predict and look at if the undefeated teams will win or lose in Week 4 play like last week in which I was 8for-9 in my predictions.
Defeated: Southern Miss 31-7, at Bowling Green 22-19, and Alcorn State 28-21
Strength of Schedule: 126th
Road Victories: 1
Wins vs. Power 5 teams: 0
Next opponent: Louisiana
South Alabama had two close games in which they won by single digits. The Jaguars have a bye week in week four so they will remain undefeated for another week. South Alabama has a tough opponent in week five as they host the Ragin’ Cajuns whose only lost came on the road against previously ranked Texas. The Jaguars at home has a chance against Louisiana but will end up getting their first loss of the 2021 season.
Week 4 prediction: Bye Week
Defeated: Montana State 19-16, at Northern Illinois 50-43, and Ball State 45-12
Strength of Schedule: 113th
Road Victories: 1
Wins vs. Power 5 teams: 0
Next opponent: at UConn
Wyoming struggled in week one play against an FCS opponent at home and almost lost on the road to Northern Illinois. They bounced back with a dominating home victory against Ball State and they should easily be able to win on the road against winless UConn.
Week 4 prediction: Wyoming 38, UConn 17
Defeated: Abilene Christian 56-9, North Texas 35-12, and at Louisiana Tech 39-37
Strength of Schedule: 112th
Road Victories: 1
Wins vs. Power 5 teams: 0
Next opponent: at TCU
SMU’s offense has been doing very well thus far this season as they are pointing points on the board. However, in their first road game they struggled but won their game against Louisiana Tech. Their undefeated season looks to be coming to an end as they travel to play an in-state opponent from the Big 12 in TCU.
Week 4 prediction: TCU 31, SMU 21
Defeated: at Georgia State 43-10, Western Kentucky 38-35, and UConn 52-21
Strength of Schedule: 100th
Road Victories: 1
Wins vs. Power 5 teams: 0
Next opponent: Miami (OH)
Army has surprised some with their efficiency on offense and their ability to score touchdowns this season. Their defense against Western Kentucky for example, showed some vulnerabilities but has showed to be solid this season overall. The Black Knights host Miami (OH) in Week 4 play and will enter Week 5 as an undefeated team.
Week 4 prediction: Army 34, Miami (OH) 21
Defeated: at Illinois 37-30, Lamar 54-0, and Middle Tennessee 27-13
Strength of Schedule: 93rd
Road Victories: 1
Wins vs. Power 5 teams: 1
Next opponent: at Memphis
UTSA surprised many when they went on the road and beat a team that had beaten Nebraska the week before in Illinois. However, the Roadrunners have shown to be a quality team and have won their last two games by two touchdowns or more. UTSA has a tough task going on the road to play Memphis and they will play them tough before losing the game last.
Week 4 prediction: Memphis 28, UTSA 24
