3. Florida’s Defense is Still Giving up big plays

The Gators defense is better than it was last season. However, they have shown a propensity to giving up plays early in a game and making things tougher on themselves. It happened last week against Alabama and it continued in the first half of the game against Tennessee.

These big plays are mostly happening through the air and downfield. The secondary is where I think the Gators are going to have some question marks throughout the season. The good thing for Florida is that it won’t face an offense capable of exploiting their weaknesses until they play Georgia at the end of October.

The good news for Florida though is that the run defense has been solid. The Gators shut down the Alabama rushing attack last week and Tennessee was not able to break anything big on a consistent basis.

I would not say that this is an elite defense, but I think it is good enough for the Gators to be a factor in the SEC and playoff race for the rest of the year. If it can cut down on the big plays, Florida will be even better.
