Baylor Football: 3 takeaways from impressive win over No. 14 Iowa State
1. Dave Aranda is ahead of schedule
After a tough first season for Baylor, did anyone really think the Bears would be ranked in the second year of the Dave Aranda era? It’s honestly impressive to see these Bears buy into the system immediately and he’s looking like one of the best second-year head coaches in the country along with guys like Sam Pittman and Mel Tucker who also have unbeaten teams after tough year ones.
When Matt Rhule left the program, there was some worry that the Bears would fade back into mediocrity, but the athletic department made the great hire of Aranda, hiring the highly-regarded defensive coordinator away from national champion LSU.
Baylor doesn’t get enough credit for making this hire of Aranda and that’s a shame because he has this team playing as well as anyone in the country, starting 4-0 and jumping to No. 21 in the AP Top 25.
The scary thing is that Aranda doesn’t have his guys yet. Once he gets his recruits to town, the Bears are going to be perennial contenders in the Big 12, if they aren’t already.
Yeah, Aranda is ahead of schedule in Waco.
