No. 6 Biggest college football upset of Week 4

SMU upset TCU 42-34

Southern Methodist defeated in-state Big 12 rival in the 100th meeting for the Battle for the Iron Skillet. SMU got its second-straight win over TCU, something the Mustangs haven’t done since their back-to-back wins in 1992 and 1993.

SMU QB Tanner Mordecai, the nation’s top quarterback for total touchdown passes this season, added four more to his total in this game. But it was the running game that helped give SMU the edge in this game.

SMU rushed for 350 yards in this game, led by sophomore stud Ulysses Bentley IV. Bentley finished with 20 carries for 153 yards and a touchdown, while senior Tre Siggers added 110 rushing yards with his 18 carries.

SMU takes on South Florida next week, while TCU begins conference play with a big test against Texas in Week 5.

UTSA upset Memphis 31-28

The Memphis Tigers were on a 17-game home winning streak prior to this Week 4 game against Texas-San Antonio and things looked great after the first quarter. The Tigers were up 21-0 after the first quarter, but UTSA made adjustments and went on an absolute tear beginning in the second quarter.

From quarters two through four, UTSA outscored Memphis 31 to 7, showing the Tigers why they are one of the most resilient teams in the Group of Five. UTSA already earned a quality win over Illinois in Week 1 of the college football season.

The Roadrunners wore out the Memphis defense, executing 62 running. Junior running back Sincere McCormick was a workhorse for UTSA, carrying the ball 42 times for 184 yards and scoring 3 touchdowns.

UTSA faces UNLV next week, while Memphis prepares for its first conference game of the season against Temple.
