Group of Five Power Rankings, Week 7: Cincinnati unbeatable?

This week, we have some returning faces to the  Group of Five Power Rankings and we have some departing teams. UAB in Boise State every join the rankings with big wins in Week 6. Memphis and Western Michigan have dropped out of the Group of Five power rankings with losses.

Just missing the cut in this week’s Group of Five power rankings are Eastern Michigan and Northern Illinois — both from the MAC.

Week 6 result: Won 31-14 vs. FAU

UAB held Florida Atlantic to their second-fewest points this season, led by safety Grayson Cash and his 100-yard interception returned for a touchdown in the second quarter just before halftime. The Blazers bounced back nicely against FAU after a tough 24-point loss to Liberty last week.

Week 6 result: Won 45-33 vs. FIU

Charlotte quarterback Chris Reynolds had an efficient outing against Florida international this week. The senior was 21-for-27 passing for 203 yards with four touchdowns and zero interceptions. Charlotte dominated the time of possession in this game, holding the ball for 35:25 compared to just 24:35 for FIU.

Week 6 result: Won 26-17 vs. No. 10 BYU

Boise State continues its streak of earning a win the week after a loss with a huge upset victory over previously No. 10 BYU. The Boise State defense shut out BYU in the second and third quarters allowing zero points. The Broncos forced two fumbles and had two fourth-down stands during those two periods. Boise State remained poised after trailing 10-3 in the first quarter, going on to outscore BYU 23-7 the rest of the way.

Week 6 result: Won 20-16 vs. East Carolina

UCF, still reeling from a depleted backfield, managed to squeak out a win over conference foe East Carolina on one of the last plays of the game. Backup freshman quarterback Mikey Keene, in just his second start, still does not look comfortable in the starting role. The Knights have to get better on third down efficiency, as they converted just 33 percent of their attempts against ECU.

Week 6 result: Lost 14-24 vs. Air Force

Wyoming lost its first game of the season at the hands of Air Force. The Cowboys win cold in the second half, scoring zero points. Wyoming couldn’t get anything going on our fence converting just 3-of-12 third-down attempts in the game. The Cowboys will try to regroup before playing Fresno State on Oct. 16.
