2. Defense was optional

If you thought this was going to be a 24-17 type of game, you probably turned the game on in the fourth quarter and had a heart attack after seeing Army make it 49-42 with a passing touchdown on fourth-and-10 near the red zone. It was that kind of game for both sides.

Sam Hartman was doing essentially whatever he wanted on offense, but his defense couldn’t bail him out as the Black Knights were able to answer just about every score.

This was one of those games that will leave you scratching your head because how? Just how? How and why were there so many points scored?

You would have thought that the Demon Deacons would have been prepared for this option attack after getting an extra week, but that wasn’t the case. The Black Knights ran all over the field and even had two passing touchdowns while Wake was slinging the ball around the yard.

Defense optional.
