2. (25) Arkansas at LSU

Arkansas and LSU meet Saturday night in Baton Rouge, always a tough place to play especially at night. The Tigers have won five in a row in the series with the last Razorback victory occurring in the 2015 season.

Arkansas’ ground game ranks fourth in the country and is tops in the SEC, averaging 243 yards. The Razorbacks spread the rock around and have four rushers with over 400 yards on the ground. One of them is quarterback KJ Jefferson. Between Jefferson and the three running backs, they have a combined average of 5.6 yards per carry and a total of 16 rushing touchdowns

LSU is playing out the string for Ed Orgeron. The Tigers have lost four of their last five, the lone win a shootout victory over struggling Florida. The team played inspired last Saturday against Alabama and nearly pulled the upset. In order to pull the upset against Arkansas, quarterback Max Johnson will have to get going early in the passing game. The Razorback secondary has been inconsistent since a great September and this is where the Tigers could take advantage.

Neither of these teams are a factor in the SEC West race. However the Razorbacks are still fighting for bowl position in the SEC.

Another factor here is how much does LSU care after expending so much only to come up short against Alabama. Will the Tigers rise to the challenge against another tough opponent or will they throw in the towel? The Tigers can still gain bowl eligibility with a win here and a likely win next week against Louisiana-Monroe. Defeating Texas A&M in the final week of the regular season is not likely.
