CFP Rankings Projections, Week 13: Ohio State, Alabama fighting for No. 2
The Wolfpack just continue to take care of business and I see the Wolfpack remaining at No. 20, jumping San Diego State but getting jumped by Utah, after beating Syracuse by 24. The Wolfpack are one of the biggest surprises in the ACC this season and who would have thought that they’d be ranked ahead of Clemson in Week 13?
For a while, it looked like Brennan Armstrong and Virginia were going to shock Pitt on Saturday afternoon, but the Panthers held on thanks to another big game from Kenny Pickett. If it weren’t for guys like Matt Corral, Bryce Young, and CJ Stroud, Pickett would probably be getting an invite to New York for the Heisman Ceremony. He helped the Panthers to a 48-38 win.
For some reason, Illinois has been giving everyone trouble this season and it seems like Bret Bielema is building a promising program in Champaign. Iowa, on the other hand, has really fallen off since the beginning of the season but the Hawkeyes found a way to hold on with a 10-point home win over the Illini. Iowa has serious quarterback issues, however.
Oh joy, another SEC team playing an FCS squad. Prairie View A&M came to College Station in Week 12 and it was delivered a blowout loss. Zach Calzada had a decent game despite attempting just 14 passes and the Aggies pretty much sleep-walked to a 52-3 win over a hapless opponent. Not exactly a way to move up in the rankings.
The playoff committee is going to be really impressed with what Utah did to Oregon on Saturday night and I see them bumping the Utes up near the top-15. It’s tough to justify the Utes jumping some of the two-loss teams in the top-15, but they’ll be right on the edge. It’s too bad Kyle Whittingham’s team started the year 1-2 because they look like serious contenders.
