Florida Football: 4 head coaches who could return Gators to top of SEC
4. Mark Stoops
Usually these lists always mention a Stoops, but it’s usually Bob Stoops who stepped down at Oklahoma years ago to make way for Lincoln Riley. But this time, the Stoops I believe who would be a great fit for the Gators is Mark Stoops, the current head coach at Kentucky.
The Youngstown, Ohio, native has actually spent some time coaching in the Sunshine State throughout his career. He was a defensive backs coach at South Florida in 1996 and then came back to be a defensive backs coach in 2001 at Miami. Seven years later he went to Florida State to be the defensive coordinator before taking the Kentucky job.
At Kentucky, he’s had plenty of success and it’s been impressive given the fact that it’s widely considered a basketball school. Football comes second in Lexington and yet he’s managed to go 57-53 at Kentucky. He turned around a dead program and just imagine what he could do with more resources dedicated to football.
Stoops is likely going to be looked at for the LSU job and his SEC success is going to translate to a bigger program. He would be a fantastic hire for Florida.
