Ole Miss Football: 3 takeaways from 2021 Egg Bowl win over Mississippi State
1. Lane Kiffin is a magician
What a job Lane Kiffin has done. The Rebels went from making just one bowl game from 2016-2020 to winning 10 games this season. Even when Ole Miss made a bowl game (last season), it won just five games in a COVID-19 year. But still, after going bowl-less in the four previous seasons before Lane Kiffin, he’s taking the Rebels to the postseason in back-to-back years.
Kiffin is a magician and his turnaround needs to be noted.
The Rebels won a total of 20 games in four seasons before Kiffin and he’s 15-7 in his first two seasons. He’s going to hit 20 wins in the middle of his third year with Ole Miss and that’s enough to earn him a long-term extension (more than the four-year deal he inked in January) and I think the Rebels need to get that done because there are going to be a lot of schools coming a-calling this offseason.
Kiffin also led Ole Miss to its first 10-win regular season in school history and that means the Rebels might just win 11 games for the first time ever in their New Year’s Six bowl.
Recruiting is only getting better, Kiffin is only getting better, and the Rebels are trending up. What he’s done in Oxford has been magical.
