It’s Rivalry Week, and we’re seeing teams that really don’t like each other get into it on the field as well as before games. Florida State and Florida football are no exceptions to this hatred.

This rivalry game between Florida and Florida State has a little extra meaning this year.

Over the past few years, it’s been padding the win column for the Gators, but after a disastrous season, Florida is sitting at 5-6 along with Florida State. The winner of this game in The Swamp will be heading to a bowl game while the other will have to pick up the pieces this offseason.

With so much on the line, you just know tension is going to be at an all-time high.

And that was evident before the game even kicked off with the two teams getting into a shouting match and having to be separated.

It’s pretty clear that these two sides hate each other and while this rivalry game might not get as much love as Michigan vs. Ohio State or Auburn vs. Alabama, it’s still one of those matchups to keep an eye on because there’s so much to play for and so much hatred between the two sides.

Florida football playing for pride

While Florida could make a bowl game, this is a big game for pride. Both sides could use this as a momentum-building win in terms of recruiting, but the Gators need this to help the next coach out in terms of the team’s confidence in 2022.

If Florida can win and improve to 6-6 and potentially finish the year above .500, they’ll feel much better than a 5-7 finish and missed bowl. It may not seem like much, but this game is massive.

No wonder tensions are running incredibly high. Expect a chippy game.
