T4. Conference USA (8)

A lot of these Conference USA bowl-bound teams aren’t exactly moving the needle for the average college football fan.

UTSA won the conference title over Western Kentucky and some of these teams might actually be more exciting than people think and present some interesting matchups during bowl season. Keep an eye on UTSA vs. San Diego State in the Frisco Bowl and Western Kentucky vs. App State in the Boca Raton Bowl.

Here’s who made bowls from the C-USA:

  • North Texas (Frisco Football Classic) vs. Miami (OH) on Dec. 23

T4. MAC (8)

The MAC doesn’t get a ton of respect, but sending eight teams to bowl games this year may change that. There’s still no clear dominant team despite Northern Illinois winning the conference title game with Michigan State transfer Rocky Lombardi leading the way at quarterback.

Toledo is a solid team every year and the Rockets will kick off bowl season on Dec. 17 against Middle Tennessee in the Bahamas Bowl. The champion (Northern Illinois) will be playing Coastal Carolina in an intriguing Cure Bowl on the same day.

All three Michigan directional schools also made the postseason.

Here’s who made a bowl from the MAC:

  • Central Michigan (Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl) vs. Boise State on Dec. 31
  • Western Michigan (Quick Lane Bowl) vs. Nevada on Dec. 27
  • Ball State (Camellia Bowl) vs. Georgia State on Dec. 25
  • Miami (OH) (Frisco Football Classic) vs. North Texas on Dec. 23
  • Kent State (Famous Idaho Potato Bowl) vs. Wyoming on Dec. 21
  • Eastern Michigan (LendingTree Bowl) vs. Liberty on Dec. 18
  • Northern Illinois (Cure Bowl) vs. Coastal Carolina on Dec. 17
  • Toledo (Bahamas Bowl) vs. Middle Tennessee on Dec. 17

T4. Mountain West (8)

No surprise here as the Mountain West usually has some sneaky good teams and 2021 has been no different.

Led by Mountain West champ Utah State, the conference sends eight teams to the postseason which is tied for fourth behind three Power Five leagues.

Boise State is a big name and it’ll be in the Arizona Bowl on Dec. 31 against Central Michigan, Nevada will have an intriguing Quick Lane Bowl matchup with Western Michigan, San Diego State will face Conference USA champ UTSA in the Frisco Bowl, and Utah State will be headed to the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl against the Pac-12’s Oregon State.

  • Boise State (Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl) vs. Central Michigan on Dec. 31
