Florida football’s 2021 season is finally over after falling to UCF but there’s plenty to be happy about heading into the offseason.

As the Gators went four-and-out on their final drive on Thursday night against UCF in the Gasparilla Bowl to fall to 6-7 on the year, there had to be one thing that came to mind immediately for Florida football fans: thankfully it’s over.

It’s finally over, Florida fans. The 2021 season is in the books.

Yes, now it’s time to move on and forget that this season ever happened. And despite a whole coaching staff change and just nine recruits committed to the 2022 class, there’s plenty to be excited about moving forward.

Here’s why Florida fans should be excited about 2022.

3. Quarterback play can’t get any worse

Anyone who watched the Gasparilla Bowl knows that the quarterback play Florida got was pretty much mediocre all season and the UCF loss was what the Gators saw all year in a nutshell.

Emory Jones was a horrid 14-for-36 with 171 yards and no touchdowns. And it’s not like UCF had one of the best defenses in the country. Jones was overthrowing, underthrowing, and just missing targets all night long and the receivers were visibly frustrated. It was a common theme throughout the season as Florida hadn’t gotten consistent quarterback play.

Jones might be back along with a healthy Anthony Richardson and the Gators landed Ohio State quarterback Jack Miller in the transfer portal, so the room should be much improved under a new staff. Things can’t get much worse than they were this season.

With Jones and Richardson pushing each other to get better along with Miller, there has to be plenty of hope that the quarterback position will be one of strength in 2022.
