Nebraska football is looking to add some talent through the transfer portal and here are three additions the Huskers need for 2022 and beyond.

Scott Frost is back for another season as Nebraska football head coach and this time, it’s imperative that he gets it right.

Frost may be the prodigal son and his passion for Nebraska football, as well as his history as a player, carries a lot of weight. He’s also proven he can win in college football, just not in Lincoln yet.

But AD Trev Alberts is right in the fact that it felt like Nebraska football made progress. The losses to Illinois, Michigan State, Michigan, Oklahoma, and even Iowa were maddening. Nebraska could have won all of those games — Minnesota and Wisconsin too.

Adrian Martinez, for all the good he did, seemed to always find a way to make the wrong play at the wrong time instead of the right one.

So it was the right thing for him to enter the transfer portal and play somewhere else to finish his college career. He needed a fresh start like Nebraska football needed a new quarterback.

Yet, here we are at the start of January without an addition at QB from the transfer portal. It will be coming soon and here’s my look at who Nebraska should get and with the way the quarterback room looks like right now, get ready for more than one QB on this list.

And that’s where we start.

Casey Thompson, QB, Texas

There is a ton of buzz about Casey Thompson coming to Nebraska football right now. The former Texas starting quarterback who threw 24 touchdown passes for the Horns in 2021 even got a crystal ball projection to the Huskers recently from Trey Scott of 247 sports.

Thompson was a four-star quarterback in high school and ranked 291 overall back in the 2018 recruiting class. He’s played in three different seasons for Texas but finally got some extended playing time in 2021 and threw for 2,113 yards and 24 scores but nine interceptions too.

Thompson also ran for four touchdowns this past season, showing he can do some dual-threat stuff too if needed and he’s got two years of eligibility left.

In short, he could be the perfect fit. He wasn’t included on my list of top quarterback targets for Nebraska football in the portal because he seemed like a TCU lean. Now, that’s changed and if the Huskers can land him it would be huge.
