Former five-star quarterback Caleb Williams has entered the transfer portal and are five college football contenders that need him.

Free agency has officially arrived in college football. In a move with huge implications, former five-star quarterback Caleb Williams, the starter for Oklahoma, entered the transfer portal on Monday.

It was a shocking move but there were rumors that it was about to happen. Ultimately, it’s not really surprising. Williams went to Norman because it was a quarterback factory. Lincoln Riley made Oklahoma a destination for quarterbacks and when he left, that left too.

Brent Venables may be a great head coach but he doesn’t have any history of developing NFL quarterbacks and make no mistake about it, Williams wants to be the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL draft. It seems like that is his No. 1 goal.

Obviously, winning helps achieve that and all players want to reach the College Football Playoff. They also want a shot to win the national championship.

Here are five teams that can become instant national title contenders with Caleb Williams on their roster, as well as five teams where he can become a top draft pick.

5. Georgia Bulldogs

We open with Georgia on this list because the Bulldogs have proven they don’t need Caleb Williams to contend for a national championship. But ask me a week from now if they need him to win a national championship.

If the Dawgs can’t conquer Alabama this year with Bryce Young, why not do everything possible to get Williams to Athens to gear up for another run at Nick Saban and company in 2022?

Georgia is among the early favorites to land Williams and with all of its talent, the elite quarterback has been missing and Williams could be the final piece.
