College Football: Top 6 transfer portal running back additions for 2022
By Dante Pryor
4. Lyn-J Dixon: from Clemson to West Virginia
Head coach Neil Brown and the West Virginia Mountaineers adding transfer portal running back Lyn-J Dixon is a solid move for the program. Dixon is a reliable veteran runner, who has the desire to prove he can carry the load as a full-time starter, has had to play behind blue-chippers like Travis Etienne and Will Shipley.
Dixon came from a program with a winning culture and was a leader. Dixon was supposed to be the next man up, but Etienne’s return in 2020 threw a monkey wrench in those plans. Dixon was then passed up for carries by Shipley, Phil Mafah, and Kobe Pace.
Though Dixon has yet to prove himself as a featured running back, he can be an excellent complementary runner in 2019, his best season as a Tiger. That said, Dixon will have the opportunity to carry the load in Morgantown with Leddie Brown off to the NFL Draft.
Redshirt sophomore Tony Mathis is the only running back on the roster with significant carries returning next season.
Dixon has played in plenty of big games at Clemson, and being part of a winning culture at Clemson could pay dividends with what Brown and the coaching staff at West Virginia are attempting to build there.
