Florida Football made a coaching change and there is lots of optimism heading into 2022. How many games will the Gators win?

Florida Football had a successful run under former head coach Dan Mullen, but late in 2020, things started to go wrong for Mullen. After starting that season out well, the Gators stumbled but were expected to bounce back in 2021. That did not happen and Florida finished 6-7 and Mullen was shown the door.

Florida went out and hired Louisiana coach Billy Napier to help turn around the football program. Fans and analysts were critical of the way that Mullen recruited and how the program was falling behind Georgia.

Napier has worked for both Nick Saban and Dabo Swinney and knows what it takes to run a top-notch program in the SEC. Napier was very successful at Louisiana and is known as a tireless recruiter. The Gators are going to be trying to catch Georgia and Alabama on the recruiting trail and Napier seems to be the guy to close that gap.

For 2022, it might be a bit of a transition year for the program. For starters, Florida is going to have to find steady quarterback play.

For all of his faults, Mullen could coach offense and quarterbacks but was not able to get the most out of either Emory Jones or Anthony Richardson. Both Jones and Richardson are going to be back this season, but Napier did add former Ohio State quarterback Jack Miller in the transfer portal and it will be interesting to see how this position plays out.

The schedule is tough and expectations for 2022 should be tempered, but Napier looks to have the right kind of traits to win at the highest level.
